UFO Cults and Us

The quote in the beginning of the chapter stood out to me the most. It said, "A man with a conviction is a hard man to change. Tell him you disagree and he turns away. Show him facts or figures and he questions your sources. Appeal to logic and he fails to see your point." This quote along with the picture made me realize how quickly I can come to a decision without even thinking it through. After reading about the Keech cult, I at first thought, "how stupid can these people be?" As I continued to develop my thoughts and comprehension of the cult, I realized how easy it can be to get sucked in to something. The quote is true when it speaks about a man with conviction is hard to change. We, as Americans can get sucked in to the media as they tell us what to wear, how to act, and what to think. It's also really hard to listen to other people's reasoning that may differ from your own beliefs because people think that their way is the "right" way.

  1. Very true... People fail to sit back and realize how much we, as Americans, are controlled by advertising and propaganda. People don't truly research what they take in or buy and why they do it... all they really know is that the product or information "sounds" or "looks" useful. In actuality, 90% of the time, the public can stay away from new "breakthrough" items or info and and still receive what they want and/or need in life. As of now though, we are controlled by the media, and I don't see a change in that for a long time.
